Description

John Burnet Snr, 1867. 3-storey and basement classical commercial building. Ground floor James Thomson 1898.

Polished ashlar, channelled at ground floor; 5 x 7 bays, 1st return bay from S in Renfield Street blind at 1st and 2nd floor. Ground floor glazed later granite pilastrade on stone pedestals and corniced die walls, casement windows with geometric glazing bars; 2 symmetrical projecting Ionic porticos with parapets at heads of steps oversailing basement in West George Street. Windows at upper floors mainly sash

and case in architraves; 1st floor cill band, windows corniced to West George Street. 2nd floor cill band. Eaves entablature with advanced paterae and rosette frieze, mutule cornice. Balustraded parapet with panelled piers. Corniced wallhead stack to Renfield Street.

INTERIOR: anta columned banking hall with coffered, corniced ceiling.
