Circa 1840, remodelled later with additional rear hall.
5-bay former central section of symmetrical terrace block
of which eastern section (Nos 232-4) remains. 3 storeys
and basement. Central bay raised and advanced. Ashlar,
rusticated at basement with flat arches over windows. Central
entry at head of stair oversailing basement area; Doric
portico with coupled, fluted columns and responds, plain
entablature, balustraded parapet. Sash and case windows in
architraves with 12-pane glazing. Ground floor moulded cill
band blank aprons. 1st floor corniced windows, 2/3rds
architraves with linking stringcourse, console pedimented
in centre; 1st floor cornice. 2nd floor cill band. Eaves
cornice; blocking course.
Cast-iron area railings.
INTERIOR: remodelled J J Burnet. Tuscan columned,
shallow-domed vestibule. wood panelled hall, carved timber
staircase.
THE LISTER ROOM: Corinthian screen, timber chimneypiece with
relief profile sculpture of Lister. College Hall: coved
vestibule, columned screen, side windows, highly-carved timber chimneypiece with marble-shafted columns, round-headed windows
with curvilinear leaded lights, fluted pilastered doorpiece
to both faces of entrance to hall, coved, coffered ceiling with geometric compartments.
ALEXANDRA ROOM: plaster panelled walls, circular panelled
corniced ceiling.
