James Napier (Laird and Napier), circa 1927. Modern
classical commercial building. 5 storeys and mezzanine,
4 bays. Ashlar. Tall ground floor with architrave in
entrance bays enclosing tall fanlight mezzanine; left
3 bays, ground and mezzanine linked in frame supported
by distyle in antis, Ionic order, flanking simple but
boldly moulded door frame, glazed side lights and
mezzanine; bronze doors. Side entrance to upper floors
in westmost bay; banded, keyblocked surround to upper
light with moulded cill. Ground floor cornice on carved
consoles. 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor windows vertically
linked in recesses with keyblocked segmental arches at
3rd floor (2nd bay from E consoled) small-paned metal
framed windows. Main entablature, dentil cornice,
parapet.
INTERIOR: partly altered. Marble-lined entrance hall
with stained glass window to rear at light well.
Entrance hall now partitioned.
