Alexander Taylor, 1839-51. Classical curving terrace block of 57 bays. 3 storeys and basement raised and advanced in centre and 4-storey, 5-bay end pavilions with coupled, giant Corinthian pilasters rising through 1st and 2nd floors. Ashlar, partly painted, channelled at ground floor, droved ashlar basement. Windows mainly sash and case in architraves, some with glazing bars. Entrances mainly at head of steps oversailing basement area. Ionic pilastered entry to Nos 23 and 24 with block pedimented, consoled window above; projecting Greek Ionic half-fluted porticos with coupled columns in centre at Nos 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19 with consoled projecting cornice above; remaining corniced entrances with shouldered architraves. Ground floor windows tripartite bow windows with Doric pilaster mullions, tripartite windows with stone mullions above with consoled projecting cornice, shouldered architraves, aprons; 1st floor single windows lugged and shouldered architraves, aprons, cill band formed by ground floor cornice; 1st floor consoled cornice. Block pedimented, 2-light, stone mullioned windows at 2nd floor, parapet raised to coupled stacks above entrances in lower section.
Elevation to North Claremont Street: 3 bays; tetrastyle Corinthian pilastrade rising through 1st and 2nd floor; fluted Greek Ionic portico flanked by pedimented windows, 1st floor outer corniced, central consoled, pedimented; wallhead stack as main elevation; low channelled boundary wall to N with symmetrical pedimented entrances.
Elevation to Kelvingrove Street: 6 bays with 3-bay, bowed, recessed corner section, corniced windows at 1st and 2nd floor; pilastered entry at No 36 Kelvingrove Street. Cast-iron railings.
