Description

J W and J Laird, architects; 1910. 5-storey symmetrical
7-bay office building. Polished red sandstone, centre
3 bays emphasised. Altered shops to ground, deep
cornice over ground. Recessed bays with tripartite
windows, bipartite to 4th. All windows sash and case
with single pane lower sash and 6-pane upper sash.
Centrel 3 bays with giant order pilasters rising from
1st to support archivolt over arched thermal windows at
3rd. At 4th to centre 3 bays, solid ashlar balcony with
deeply recessed windows above.
Deep mutule eaves cornice, plain parapet, tall corniced
axial stacks.
Return elevation to College Street.

Statement of Interest

Built for Messrs McBride & Logie, curriers, leather merchants, leather lace manufacturers and boot factors. The building was known as St Catherine's Leather Works. Additional information by courtesy of Iain Paterson, Glasgow City Council.
