Probably Burnet, Boston and Carruthers, circa 1905. 2-storey
Free Style commercial building with halls. Red ashlar
sandstone built by City Improvement Trust. Shop fronts
retained at ground, with close at centre, each with
timber door pediments; pend to right. Consoled, moulded
cornice above ground. 4 symmetrical bays at 1st floor,
divided by fluted pilasters with Ionic capitals, flanking
segmentally arched windows with variously carved, keystoned
and shouldered surrounds. Moulded cornice above frieze
with bolection moulded blocks; parapet with ashlar dies,
and regrettable in-fill replacing former balustrade.
Modern glazing at 1st floor.
2-storey height of building is overshadowed by flanking
4-storey tenements.
