Thomson and Sandilands, architects, 1904. Cast-iron
framed 6-storey Edwardian Baroque warehouse. 4-bays
with central bay wider, 2-bay similarly detailed elevation
to 45 Albion Street and wider angled bay to corner,
bowed to ground, 1st and 2nd, canted above. Each bay
has 3-window grouping.
Red ashlar sandstone, altered ground floor, channelled to
1st, 2nd and 3rd, with giant order partly fluted Ionic
pilasters supporting an entablature, dividing bays. 4th
and 5th floors with strip pilasters ornately carved at 4th,
panelled to 5th. All windows sash and case with plate
glass glazing. Off-centre wider bay to Bell Street with
elaborate entrance to ground. Carved consoled
segmentally pediment with elaborate tympanum over
pilastered keystoned doorway, double-leaf doors. Above
narrow lights flank advanced 3-window centre with giant
pilasters rising to curved pediment at 4th. Crowning
pediment over whole 5-window section, both pediments
with carved tympana. Balustraded parapet, facetted lead
dome to angle.
Tiled common stair hall with cast-iron balusters.
B group with 2-58 Albion Street, a similarly detailed
warehouse also by Thomson and Sandilands.
