Trench (1885-1979) was Architect Surveyor to the Metropolitan Police. Each police call box was intended to be a 'miniature police station'. There are three other listed examples of this type remaining in situ in Glasgow, at Buchanan Street (LB32825), Wilson Street (LB32803) and Cathedral Square (LB51059). The Botanics box is set between dwarf wall and railings enclosing the Gardens, with further enclosure wall behind.
