Robert Whitworth, engineer, 1787-90. 400ft long aqueduct
carrying Forth and Clyde canal over the River Kelvin.
4 heavy segmental arches, with v-cutwater buttress-piers;
only one pier stands in river. Lower courses heavily
channelled rustic masonry, with bold voussoirs. Upper courses
of polished ashlar, ashlar soffits.
Polished ashlar coped parapet with die piers over buttresses.
