Description

Circa 1874, asymmetrical villa with 1894 additions to W
and N by James Thomson. Original villa, stugged ashlar
with polished margins. 2 storeys, attic and basement with
3-storey Italianate tower feature over porch.
S ELEVATION: 3-bay with full-height canted windows
flanking single light architraved windows, corniced at
ground.
Stepped back porch bay to E flank with steps to Roman
Doric pilastered doorway with mutule cornice, tall double-
leaf panelled outer door; vestibule door with fanlight.
Above, tower feature with 3-light windows to 2nd floor
with low balustraded balcony. Sash windows, plate glass
glazing to both elevations. Deeply overhanging bracketted
eaves, slate roofs, semi-conical over projecting bays.
Corniced axial stacks, round-headed dormers.
BARONIAL ADDITIONS TO W: 3-storey tower in stugged ashlar
with polished margins and quoins. All windows mullioned
and transomed. Large corbelled canted oriel at SW angle
(1st floor) with strapwork parapet. Corbel course at
eaves, embattled parapet, tall angled diamond stacks.
1930's single-storey addition to W in rendered brick.
Balustraded terrace with steps to front of garden.
RETAINING WALLS AND GATEPIERS: stugged ashlar retaining
walls support ashlar balustrading to boundary with
Beaconsfield Road. Pair of tall square painted ashlar
gatepiers.
