Description

John Burnet, Son & Campbell, designed June 1888. Long terrace of 8 substantial 2-storey, 5-bay houses, slightly stepped in gentle slope. Ashlar, with squared snecked rubble to sides and rear. Plinth, band course between storeys, cill course at 1st. Central entrances with very wide 2-leaf panelled door. 2 windows to left of door, wide canted and balustraded window to right, all with simply moulded arrises. 5 1st floor windows. Plate glass sash and case windows. Deep timber eaves, ball finials on party walls.

Slate roof, end and ridge stacks. Entrance to No 2 Marlborough Avenue on N gable. Double-leaf doors, small paired windows above with stained glass and tall stair window with etched glass.

Low front retaining wall with stumpy battered piers.

Statement of Interest

Modern pivot glazing unfortunately inserted in No 50. Built for J Smellie Jun., wright and builder and the obvious inspiration for the later block to the south.
