Circa 1900. Baronially detailed, asymmetrical
valvehouse for sewerage pumping. Red bench with yellow
sandstone dressings. L-plan with circular, castellated
tower in re-entrant angle. N-S block taller than E-W,
all with crowstepped gables and Westmoreland slate
roof. Positioned on the embankment beside the Glasgow-
Dumbarton railway line.
The Value House is on the City of Glasgow Boundary with West Dumbartonshire. It is accessed from a gate on the north side of the railway bridge on Hawick Street. The building is known locally as Yorker Castle.
