Circa 1850; 3 pairs of classic semi-detached villas. No
23 demolished and replaced in 1924 by red ashlar
building described below.
Classic 3-bay, 2-storey and basement villas. Polished
ashlar, mostly painted. Each 6-bay pair Ionic porches at
terminal bays. Steps to deeply recessed architraved
panelled doors. Ground floor windows architraved and
corniced; 1st floor windows architraved. Sash windows;
plate glass or 12-pane glazing. Plain main cornice;
blocking course. Corniced axial stacks, some octagonal
flues, slate roofs. Coursed rubble flanks and rear. No
23: dated 1924 on band course over ground. Polished
red sandstone, 2-storey. Centre bay of facade advanced
and taller with pediment over. 5 windows at ground
flanked by architraved doorpieces with bracketted
cornice and double-leaf panelled doors. At 1st above
doors, windows in recessed moulded architraves, corniced
and with bold keystone. Above windows heavy cornice and
deep parapet. Centre bay with large 3-light windows;
pilaster mullions support heavy transom. Sash windows,
lying pane or small pane glazing.
