David McGibbon, 1863. Bank building with Scottish Baronial details. 3 storeys, 5 asymmetrical bays. Snecked squared red sandstone rubble with yellow dressings and quoins. Late 19th century shopfront at left, modern bank frontage at right.
Stepped strings in 1st and 2nd floors form cills to most windows. Central shallow advanced bay with oriel window in 1st floor; bipartite in 2nd with foiled panel and 2 rosettes in tympanum, all under pointed hoodmould; crowstepped gable with octagonal apex stack. Right bays with bold date stone under inner 1st floor window, 2nd floor windows with finialled gables, in shallow corbelled projections. Left bays, outer gabled, with bipartites and 1 inner, single, gabled 2nd floor window. Crowstepped gables, corniced stacks, slate roof.
Built for the National Bank of Scotland. Previously listed in error
as 16-18 Dalrymple Street, amended on 12 July 2004. Statutory address changed from '14 Dalrymple Street Royal Bank of Scotland' to '14, 16 and 18 Dalrymple Street, Royal Bank of Scotland', 2013.
