Dated 1868. 2-storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan symmetrical corner sited traditional public house with T-plan roof, external rear stair, and single storey perpendicular piended-roofed ancillary range to rear. Corniced facia over large windows and central doorway; date stone at gable apex. Painted stugged ashlar; painted quoins; base course; smooth stop-chamfered margins.
4-pane timber sash and case windows; cast-iron rooflights; slate roofs; rectangular corniced end stack with clay cans; cast-iron downpipes.
INTERIOR: a fine later 19th century commercial bar interior survives dominated by central canted timber island bar with pilasters, carved half-fluted columns and dentilled frieze with balustrade, linked to intricate glazed timber dual entrance lobby. Decorative arches; cast iron columns with floral capitals; timber panelling to dado level; margined glazed doors.
The Harrow Inn is a good example of a later 19th century purpose-built public house in its original condition prominently sited on a corner near the centre of town. The interior decorative scheme is of a high quality and in its original condition.
The town plan of 1858 shows 'The Harrow Inn' on this site. The earlier building is wider than the current and juts out from the street line of Sime Place. The current building may have been built to bring it in line with the rest of the street.
