Description

Originally Archibald Simpson, 1827-9; refronted John Forrest,
1899-1901. Classical. Ashlar. 2 storeys 3 bays with centre
slightly advanced and pedimented. At ground floor, centre bay
containing entrance framed by coupled Roman Doric columns;
coupled Roman Doric pilasters at ends, all bearing full
entablature; ground floor openings round-arched and
keyblocked; raised voussoirs at entrance. At first floor,
Ionic order; Venetian window at centre, consoled pedimented
windows at outer bays, all with balustered aprons. Cornice
and balustrade.
INTERIOR: re-modelled 1899-1901 but retaining some features
original to 1827-9. Simple entrance hall leading to central
top-lit foyer with surviving 1827-29 detailing. Shallow
pilastered walls with composite capitals; paired Ionic fluted
columns at E (former screen); coffered ceiling; some Greek
key-pattern decoration to doors. Large re-modelled inner
hall.
