Mid 19th century. 2-storey and attic, 9-bay textile
building with projecting wide centre gabled bay to both
front and rear elevations; birdcage bellcote to front
gablet. Quatrefoil vent to S gable, 2 Gothic arched doors
and windows in W gable. Later skews and skewputts.
Multi-pane glazing. End stacks; slate roof.
Firm founded by Alexander Johnston in 1797 (of Deanshaugh)
who in early 19th century leased Newmill from Joseph King
(of Lesmurdie) and developed and built extensively.
Warehouses and weaving shed appear on OS of 1868.
