Circa 1863. 2-storey, 10-bay symmetrical flatted villas. Coursed sandstone rubble with polished ashlar dressings. Base and eaves courses; raised window surrounds; long and short quoins; round-arched pedimented dormers.
S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: advanced doorpieces in 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th bays (painted at 1st, 4th and 7th bays), surrmounted by cornices and stylized pediments; panelled doors; 2-light fanlights; single windows at 1st floor above each entrance. 2nd and 3rd, 8th and 9th bays advanced and gabled, with single windows in each bay and a round-arched pedimented window set in both gableheads. Single windows in 2 central bays. Round-arched pedimented dormers between 4th and 5th, and 6th and 7th bays. Single storey flat-roofed garages adjoining to outer left and right.
E AND W ELEVATIONS: leaded stair window and 2 narrow windows.
Plate glass, 4-pane and 8-pane sash and case windows; surrounds painted at ground in 6th, 8th and 9th bays. Grey slate piended roof; 2 later pedimented dormers to No 19; coped gables; coped wallhead and mutual stacks; bracketted skewputts.
INTERIORS: not seen 1990.
Low coped rubble wall to street; high coped rubble mutual walls.
The primary interest of these villas lies in their unusual planning.
The villas are divided horizontally, with the upper flats entered by stairs from the doors to outer left and right.
