Designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, 1935. Standard K6 telephone kiosk.
The kiosk has a prominent siting, outside lodge and gates to Edinburgh Zoo (see separate list entry) on a major road route into Edinburgh. The K6 is a modified version of the K2 (also designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott) which was deemed too large, heavy and expensive for most sites. The most significant design change, concerned the glazing. Instead of regular-sized panes of glass of Georgian proportions, the vertical glazing bars were moved sideways, to create a broad central light with narrow margin lights.
