Later 18th century. 2-storey and attic, 7-bay tenement with semi-elliptical-arched pend to far left, leading to courtyard and former Quaker Meeting House (see separate listing). Coursed pale pink sandstone rubble with raised ashlar dressings. Some ground floor openings altered from doors to windows. Square piers and cornice to pend. Later mansard roof with flat-roofed bipartite dormer windows.
Predominantly 12- and 8-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Raised skews. Gable and ridge stacks.
B group with 48 and 48 A and 60 The Pleasance.
This example of a later 18th century tenement incorporated a pend and it contributes much to the distinctive character of the streetscape of The Pleasance. Together with Nos 48 and 48A and 60 The Pleasance this run forms a significant group and is an integral component of the character of The Pleasance. It is likely that the central door was originally flanked by a pair of shops although the door openings have since been converted to windows. The stone work is similar to the Quaker Meeting House to the rear (East) and both may have been built at the same time (1791).
