Statement of Interest

Prior to Thomas Hamilton's Improvement Act scheme for the new W and S approaches, West Bow climbed steeply from the Grassmarket to the Lawnmarket. The lower section of West Bow remained, but the rest was demolished to make way for Victoria Street. Thomas Hamilton made a detailed elevation of both sides of the old street in 1830, before it was demolished.
