Built by 1780; later alterations. 3-storey and attic, 6-bay tenement with 2 shops at ground flanking common stair door; No 138 later 19th century with 2-leaf arched doors; No 142 with traces of 19th century front. Coursed rubble. Pair of piend-roofed dormers.
Irregular 4-storey 4-bay rubble rear elevation.
Timber sash and case plate glass windows; modern tilt and turn at 2nd floor. Brick stacks, 1 rendered; grey slates.
INTERIOR: not seen 1995.
A Group with 144-154 (even nos) Rose Street as a surviving part of the
original fabric of Edinburgh?s New Town, one of the most important and
best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain.
