Early 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay classical house forming end of terrace; pitched single storey with attic addition at side (converted from carriage house?). Coursed cream rubble sandstone; prominent cherry cocking to principal elevation; coursed yellow sandstone to pitched addition at side. Polished, raised and painted ashlar dressings; raised quoins; droved long and short window surrounds. Rendered flat-roofed single storey retail outlets obscure front at ground.
W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: Roman Doric doorpiece in bay to outer right comprising flanking pilasters (partly demolished to right); projecting capitals; rosette entablature motifs; plain frieze; projecting cornice. Original timber panelled door; bipartite fanlight above (timber mullion). Single windows at ground in 2 bays to left of entrance; single windows in all bays at 1st floor. Boarded timber doors to garage conversion to outer right; quadripartite glazing row above.
12-pane timber sash and case windows; 2-pane sash and case windows to rear pitched dormers; fixed and pivot windows to (carriage house?) attic conversion. Graded grey slate roof with raised stone skews. Corniced rubble apex stack to S; partly rendered coped apex stack to N (mutual with No 212); some octagonal cans.
INTERIOR: not seen 1996.
BOUNDARY WALL AND GATEPIER: random rubble sandstone wall to S boundary. Single droved gatepier to right of entry comprising pyramidal cap; decorative iron work; left pier missing. Replacement cast-iron gates.
Retains architectural significance despite the ground floor being obscured by later shops. Forms a terrace with Nos 212, 214 and 216 Newhaven Road (see separate list entries). Relatively unchanged - note the original windows, door, prominent cherry cocking and pilastered doorpiece.
