Early 19th century with later additional porch to front. 2-storey, 5-bay symmetrical house set diagonally towards street facing SW. Cream rubble sandstone with slaister pointing; stugged surrounds to openings.
SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central stone porch with chamfered angles, projecting eaves; timber balustrade forming balcony to lengthened 1st floor window above. Single windows to both floors in remaining bays.
Bipartite timber casement window to left of porch at ground floor; 2-pane timber sash and case windows to both floors in remaining bays. Piended grey slate roof in diminishing courses; raised stone skews. Symmetrically disposed replacement ridge stacks with projecting cornices and circular cans.
INTERIOR: not seen 1996.
BOUNDARY WALL: rubble wall, stone coping to Newhaven Road.
Originally Old Newhaven Farm with extensive land to the rear, the house has remained in the possession of the same family throughout. Ordnance Survey map dated 1855 refers to the house as "Northfield Cottage".
