1784-90; earlier 19th century alterations at ground. 3-storey basement and attic, 6-bay classical tenement with shops at ground. Droved cream sandstone ashlar with polished dressings. Ground floor arcaded as
2 shops flanking common stair door. Shops to half raised basement. Pair of small piend-roofed dormers.
Timber sash and case, mostly 4-pane, windows. Ashlar coped skews; mutual stacks, stone to S, rendered to N; grey slates.
INTERIOR: not seen 1995.
RAILINGS: plain cast-iron railings, with urn finials to Street; elaborate Glaswegian style balustrades to N.
A Group with Nos 101-123 Hanover Street as a significant surviving part of the original fabric of Edinburgh?s New Town, one of the most important and best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain.
