Description

1784-90; later alterations at ground. 3-storey basement and attic, 3-bay former house. Shop at ground composed of large shallow bow window flanked by pair of pilastered doorpieces with plain metal fanlights; single cornice. Steps to restaurant in basement. Long and short quoins to left. Pair of piend-roofed dormers set into roof.

Timber sash and case 12-pane windows. Ashlar coped skews; rendered stack; grey slates.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.

RAILINGS: cast-iron railings to steps only.

Statement of Interest

A Group with Nos 79-89 (odd nos) Hanover Street as a significant surviving part of the original fabric of Edinburgh?s New Town, one of the most important and best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain.
