Description

Circa 1775; later alterations. 3-storey and attic 3-bay former classical house with shop built out at ground. Droved cream sandstone ashlar. Modern shopfront with plain polished ashlar frame incorporating entrance to upper floors to left. Flag pole at 1st floor. At 2nd floor, centre window blind, small decorative cast-iron balconies to flanking windows. Pair of later 19th century canted piend-roofed dormers.

Timber sash and case plate glass windows. Ashlar coped skews; rendered stack to E; grey slates.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.

Statement of Interest

Phillips?s Alexander Room is to the rear (see separate listing, No 65 George Street). A significant surviving part of the original fabric of Edinburgh?s New Town, one of the most important and best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain. A Group with Nos 33-63 (odd nos) George Street.
