Circa 1826-27. 3 and 4-storey basement maindoor and common
stair terrace block without basement areas, astylar droved
ashlar, partly with polished ashlar belt below 1st floor
windows, main cornice and blocking course, stepped at centre
over 4-storey blocks; intended to be near-symmetrical scheme
with 4-storey centre and end blocks with 3-storey links between, 4-storey block at N end replaced by Victorian tenement. No 1
and 43, 45, 47 Dean Street, 4-storey off-centre 3-window
front with pilastered common stair doorpiece to Cheyne Street,
even 4-window elevation with original shops (now domestic)
to Dean Street; nos 3-7 and 9-13, 3-storey pair of 2 pilastered
maindoor and central plain doorway common stair blocks each
7 windows wide; nos 15-19 4-storey 7-window, 2 main door
and central common stair, same detail; nos 21-25 7-window
as at nos 3-7, nos 27-31 similar but doors alternated with
windows and not grouped centrally as in others.
Named after Captain Alexander Cheyne RE who lived at No 15.
Stonework badly decayed at nos 9-13 (all floors and 15-19
(1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors).
