William Burn, circa 1820. 5 terraced blocks of 4-storey, 5-bay tenements with arched pend (cobbled) to centre (to Grindlay Street Court). Coursed rubble with droved ashlar dressings (1st 2 blocks from left cleaned). Arched doorways to flats in centre bays; altered shop fronts at ground floor. Outer bays regularly fenestrated at 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors (projecting cills); cill course to 2nd floor; eaves cornice; long and short quoins to each block.
Windows predominantly plate glass in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Corniced stacks at ridge (mostly cement rendered) with circular cans.
Designed by Burn for the Merchant Company's Grindlay Estate. A good unified composition.
