Circa 1790. Fine, 4-storey attic and basement, 5-bay commercial and residential tenement with 3-window pedimented wall-head gable. Droved ashlar with raised cills. 4-bay polished ashlar section to ground floor right with round-arches resting directly on pilasters, moulded cornice. Square-headed door and plate-glass shop front to left. Recessed dormers set within pitch of roof to far left and right.
12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate. Cast-iron rain water goods. Cast-iron railings.
Nos 9-15 Blair Street is a good well-proportional example of an 18th century Edinburgh tenement. Notable for its elegant wall-head gable and partly arcaded ground floor, its principal elevation remains substantially unaltered, contributing significantly to the historic integrity of the surrounding streetscape.
Blair Street, sloping steeply from Hunter Square on the High Street down to the Cowgate, was created as part of the South-Bridge/Hunter Square Improvements of 1785-8.
