Earlier-mid 19th century. Large garden to W of The Drum, approx 110m x 60m, enclosed on 3 sides by rubble walls with ashlar cope. Currently overgrown (1995). Inscribed panel set in wall above entrance.
Tablet over garden gate inscibed "Arms of Hugh 6th Lord Somerville, 1524, brought from Cowthally Castle to Drum in 1694". OS Map shows walled garden divided into 4 compartments with built structures (greenhouses or potting sheds) to NW wall. It is not known whether these survive. Forms part of Category A group with The Drum, East Lodges (in Newton Parish Midlothian), Gardeners' Cottages, Icehouses, Mercat Cross, Stables, Steading, West Lodge, Drumbank and North Gatepiers all listed separately.
