Thomas Hamilton, 1829-32. Semi-elliptical tunnel-arched bridge through embankment carrying Johnstone Terrace. Ashlar. Moulded cornice through bridge and moulded cope to entrances. Tall ashlar obelisks flanking entrances.
Built following the 1827 Improvement Act which proposed a Western Approach road (Johnston Terrace) linking the High Street with the developing western area of the city. Joe Rock cites the influence of Peyre's Mausoleum to Frederick Prince of Wales.
