Description

John Baxter of Portobello, circa 1826. Single storey with basement to rear, 3-bay classical house. Polished ashlar to ground; droved ashlar with rendered repairs to basement; rendered to NW and SE elevations (squared to SE); bull-faced render to rear. Band course between basement and ground; moulded string course at lintel height; cornice, blocking course; segmental-arched recesses for openings.

SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical; 5 ashlar steps with original cast-iron handrails to panelled door to centre; rectangular multi-paned fanlight above. Windows in flanking bays.

NE (REAR) ELEVATION: not seen fully, 1994. Various extensions to rear.

12-pane timber sash and case windows. Piend and platformed slate roof with platform at apex. Rendered and coped wallhead stack to NW elevation; brick and rendered, coped wallhead stack to SE; bull-face rendered wallhead stack to rear.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1994.

BOUNDARY WALLS: droved ashlar with coping to front, broken to right.
