Early 18th century. Located to N of house adjacent to bank of Union Canal. Ground slopes to N to raised bank of canal. Circular rubble domed subterranean structure; now very overgrown. Low entrance on NE side; stugged stone lintel and jambs. Raised dome at centre.
INTERIOR: domed interior; brick and rubble; partially rendered. Fall of approximately 4'.
The icehouse is likely contemporary with Ratho Park Dovecot (listed separately) which was built in the early 18th century for the Foulis family who possessed the barony of Ratho 1563-1786. Ratho Park House designed in 1824 by William Burn is listed separately.
