Description

17th century. 2 sandstone gatepiers with vermiculated cyclopean rustication; corniced; stop-chamfered reveals. Gate-hinges on right pier. Modern wall built between 2 gatepiers.

Statement of Interest

The gatepiers are located in the wall that bounds the S strip plantation. The gatepiers are the original piers for Riccarton House, demolished in the 1950s and the seat of the Gibson-Craigs. Riccarton N lodge, Riccarton gardener's house, walled garden and ice-house are listed separately.
