Style of David Bryce, mid 19th century. Single storey, asymmetrical, gabled, L-plan lodge. Squared and snecked whinstone with sandstone ashlar dressings. Chamfered margins. Contrasting quoins.
S (MAIN) ELEVATION: 4-bay large masonry blocks; advanced gabled bay to outer left, gabled porch immediately to right, original door now blocked as window. 2 windows in bays to right. Modern addition to E with entrance.
Plate glass casement and top-hopper modern windows. Broad, bracketted eaves with plain bargeboards and finials to gable. Grey slate roof. Shouldered, corniced stacks with chamfered angles.
Modern rubble wall cuts off area of lodge from Norton House avenue.
BOUNDARY WALL AND GATEPIERS: stugged coursed red sandstone boundary wall with ashlar semi-circular coping. Ashlar gatepiers with corniced, conical caps.
Norton House and associated buildings within the grounds are listed separately. The North lodge, built in similar style appears to be earlier. The West lodge is now known as Demijohn Cottage.
