Description

Circa 1877. Terrace of 5, 2-storey and attic 2-and 3-bay houses. Cream sandstone, squared and snecked stugged ashlar front with polished dressings, squared and snecked rubble to rear and sides. Stop-chamfered reveals; string course above ground floor; exposed rafters; corniced doorways with carved consoles, 2-leaf panelled doors, rectangular plate glass fanlights and tiled vestibules; 2-storey canted windows swept to square in gablehead with platformed roofs and single window in gablehead. NW (FRONT) ELEVATION: centre and end houses (nos 57, 53, 61) 3-bay with central doorway and single window at 1st floor above; canted window to left bay; gabled bay to right with single window at ground and 1st floor, 1st floor window with cornice and nailhead label stops, single window in gablehead (No 61 kingpost to gable). Houses to left and right of centre (No 55, 59) 2-bay with entrance doorway and single window at 1st floor in left bay; canted window to right bay.

SE (REAR) ELEVATION: single storey projections; single windows to remaining bays; 2 canted dormers to each house.

NE AND SW ELEVATIONS: small windows to ground and 1st floor of central bay; 2 tall corniced wallhead stacks linked to roof.

Timber sash and case windows, plate glass glazing to front, 4-pane windows to rear. Slate roof with lead flashings; 4 wallhead stacks (see above), mutual stacks.

Moulded eaves gutter.

INTERIOR: not seen 1992.

Low stepped rubble wall to front with saddleback coping, some later gates.
