Description

Mid 19th century. 4-storey 4-bay tenement with shops at ground floor and single storey shop as addition (before 1876) to SE. Cream sandstone, polished ashlar ground floor, stugged ashlar with polished dressings above, coursed and squared rubble to rear, coursed rubble to side. Base course; shallow pilasters dividing bays at ground floor, frieze and cornice above; cill band course to 1st and 2nd floor; eaves cornice with blocking course; 1st floor windows architraved and corniced; ashlar mullions.

NE (FRONT) ELEVATION: common stair doorway to outer left with panelled door and rectangular plate glass fanlight, narrow window flanking; shop doorway to left of centre, detailed as above; 3 windows to right. Bipartite windows to outer left bay; single windows to remaining bays. Rectangular bipartite dormer to left. Single storey flat-roofed shop extension in re-entrant angle to SE forming corner to Carpet Lane; rectangular openings with stop-chamfered moulded reveals and dentilled eaves cornice.

SW (REAR) ELEVATION: single windows; 2 rectangular bipartite dormers.

4-pane timber sash and case windows, replacement shop windows at ground floor. Slate roof. Broad apex stack to NW.

INTERIOR: shops with suspended ceiling throughout.
