Description

Circa 1897; extended 1921 by Alister MacDonald. Very long 1 and 2-storey gabled office block built level on falling ground. Squared and snecked bull-nosed cream sandstone with red long and short ashlar dressings, moulded arrises. Continuous cill course at upper floor level. Regular single window fenestration. Divided into 4 sections by slightly advanced 3-bay blocks with curvilinear gables containing oculi.

SW ELEVATION: doorway flanked by fluted Tuscan pilasters supporting segmental pediment with shell tympanum. Inset modern glass entrance door and canopy. Flanked by windows at upper floor level and smaller ones at basement/ground level. Gable above. 11-bay slightly recessed single storey section to right (1921 addition); piended roof at S end and square section red ashlar gatepier attached; gates and corresponding pier to S. 2 storey wing to left composed as 9 bays, 3-bay gable block, 9 bays, 3-bay gable block, 2 bays; latter adjoin newer block. 15-pane timber sash and case windows (where full height). Grey slates. Moulded red ashlar skews to gables. Cast-iron gutter rests on eaves; downpipes.
