Mid 18th century. 7-bay house radically altered in 19th
century. Rendered with painted dressings; base
course, band course, cornice continued across raised
advanced central shaped, gabled bays. Rubble at rear;
gables extended in brick. Doorway to centre of
3 advanced bays; pilastered porch with decorative
moulding to cornice and segmental pediment. Windows
flanking, 2 windows at 1st floor; central opening blind
to chimney flue. 2 windows above to attic gable; blind
central opening bipartite. Window to each bay in flanking
wings at ground and 1st floor; single centrally placed
dormers to attic of each wing, with segmental pediments.
Sash and case windows with plate glass.
Grey slates to mansard platform roof. Straight skews,
rendered stacks; central wallhead gable stack.
Prominant house in town square. Suggested locally that
flanking buildings were formerly single storey pavilions;
indistinct 19th century photographs and a copy of a painting
only documentary evidence. Raised with shaped gable by
Storie family of veterinary surgeons in late 19th century.
