Description

Later 18th century. 3-storey, 3-bay house with
basement; 2 storeys below road level and gable end to bridge.
Random rubble whinstone with sandstone dressings and stacks.
W ELEVATION: 3-bay, main doorway with strip fanlight to
centre at 1st floor approached by renewed forestair with
2 flanking windows. Further doorway below, window and
boarded opening to left. Narrow window to right.
2nd floor with small square window under eaves to each bay.
E ELEVATION: to river and weir; regular fenestration.
Detailed as above, renewed dressings at ground floor.
2 small windows to basement at river bank level.
N GABLE: doorway to left at 1st floor. Irregular window
pattern.
Predominantly 12-pane glazing pattern to sash and case
windows. Pivot plate glass at second floor.
Straight skews. End stacks. Grey slates.

Probably incorporates fabric of earlier building - see

masonry of basement; likely to have been a watermill.
