Description

Walter Newall, architect. Circa 1815 Regency mansion, now a
hotel. 2 storeys and basement. Painted ashlar, droved on
single bay flanks. Entrance front symmetrical, with 2-bay bows
with flanking panelled pilasters; recessed centre bay has
porch with 2 pairs Ionic columns, arched doorway with
sidelights and with single-pane fanlight. Plinth; strings
at ground floor cill level and band course at 1st floor level;
cornice; blocking course; Symmetrically placed stacks.
Piended slate roof. Windows reglazed with single-pane
sashes. Return elevations painted droved ashlar. Tall rear
wing, possibly - part at least - by J M Dick Peddie.
