Description

M Purdon Smith; dated 1932. Built for charitable trust.
Symmetrical long single storey row of west-facing centre-doored
3-bay cottages, central (?caretaker's) cottage slightly
taller and set forward and with flanking open porches, roof
gabled over pilastered central doorpiece; 4 cottages either
side: detached S-facing pair of cottages at N. All snecked
bull-faced red ashlar, polished dressings; 2-leaf doors;
3-light casement windows with iron frames, leaded multi
panes; end stacks, roofs all with projecting eaves and
covered with graded slates.

Statement of Interest

Inscribed plaque "....Carruthers Cottages Trust was founded

by Mrs Mary Carruthers of Warmanbie..... 1829 for the support

of ten or fewer lame or blind women natives of Dumfries....."
