Description

1898, Walter MacFarlane and Co. Octagonal bandstand. Mostly cast iron on red ashlar platform base. Facetted low-pitch copper-covered roof with decorative cresting and vallance (burgh arms at east and - renewed - platform steps) all supported on eight slender columns with foliated capitals and lyre ornament in spandrels. Underside of roof and platform deck all timber; renewed wrought iron balustrade and gate.

Statement of Interest

Some good cast-iron benches in the park nearby, some dated 1828 and inscribed "for the sick poor".
