Description

Probably late 18th century. Georgian with 19th century
alterations including work ('executed by James Barbour,
circa 1881. 3 storeys, 5 bays with basement and attic.
Red ashlar with rusticated quoins; window architraves
lugged and keystoned and with bracketted cills (altered
glazing throughout, mostly plate glass sashes; 2 ground
floor windows right with lowered cills); central 2-leaf
door, doorpiece removed; modillioned main cornice;
rooflights and 2 dormers; end stacks; slate roof. Gable
to Irish Street has 2 tall projecting bays, that to left
1840/50 and contemporary with lowered windows on main
elevation, that to right taller again, and possibly by
Barbour. Rear elevation also altered; brick with ashlar
dressings.
Interior: 19th century interiors including late 19th
century scale-and-platt timber stair with arcaded
balustrades; columned and depressed-arched screens in
entrance hall; some good timber doorpieces and ceiling
and cornice plasterwork.
