Circa 1789. 2-storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan former toll house.
Harled rubble with painted angles and margines, grey slate roof.
12-pane sash and case windows, some modern leaded replacements at E elevation, ashlar skews with rounded ends, brick gable stacks with thankstanes.
W ELEVATION: 3 bays grouped towards centre; unfortunate harled and glazed porch at centre with door and piended roof; 2-leaf door with fanlight at main elevation; windows at left and right, 3 smaller windows at 1st floor under eaves.
S GABLE: narrow window at 1st floor left, later window at right.
N GABLE: 4-pane window at ground floor right.
E ELEVATION: 2 windows at ground floor off-centre.
INTERIOR: largely reconstructed.
The toll house was probably erected as a result of 'An Act for Repairing the Roads in the County of Forfar', 1789.
