Description

Early 19th century. 3-storey, tenemental building on corner site

with shops to ground floor. Rubble sandstone, ashlar dressings now mostly refaced in concrete, piended grey slate roof. Cill band to 1st floor, eaves course, margined angles; margined windows, originally 12-pane timber sash and case, now 4-pane; ashlar-coped skews with skew blocks, rubble and brick stacks, large shouldered wallhead stack to South Tay Street.

SOUTH TAY STREET ELEVATION: modern shopfronts to ground floor,

6 windows to 1st and 2nd floors symmetrically grouped in 3s, central wallhead stack.

NETHERGATE ELEVATION: altered shopfronts to ground floor, 6 windows to 1st and 2nd floors.

INTERIOR: not seen.

Statement of Interest

The second floor windows were returned to sash and case type and dormers added in 1996. A wall head stack is missing from the centre of the Nethergate elevation. Listing updated May 2002.
