Description

Circa 1820; extensively remodelled mid 19th century. 3-storey and basement, 4-bay, classically-detailed terraced domestic and commercial building. Sandstone coursers, painted ashlar dressings, grey slate roof. Architraved windows with corbelled cills, consoled cornices to ground floor, corniced to 1st, 2-pane timber sash and case glazing. Ashlar-coped skews with skewblocks and rendered axial stacks.

FRONT ELEVATION: large pedimented entrance to left with caryatids on pilasters with swagged lion heads, 4 basement windowheads to right (1 blocked), 3 ground floor windows, 4 windows to 1st and 2nd floor.

REAR ELEVATION: rubble built; 3 bays with margined 12-pane sash and case windows.

INTERIOR: not seen.

This building was formerly the Palais de Danse. The dance hall to the rear has been demolished.
