David Baxter 1914. Former Dundee Savings Bank, Eastern
Branch. Single-storey, 5 by 5-bay Baroque bank building
on gusset site with prominent corner clock tower. Ashlar
on rock-faced base.
IDENTICAL STREET FRONTS: rock-faced base and band course,
3 recessed centre bays between giant engaged Ionic columns,
windows in Gibbs surrounds with keystones and open
segmental pediments, oculi over; inscription Dundee Savings
Bank in entablature. Slightly advanced end bays with
channelled pilasters and small pedimented keystoned
windows in Gibbs surround.
Dentil cornice and balustraded centre, short parapets with
wreath and scroll decoration over end bays. Lower 1-storey
addition W of Victoria Street elevation, 1 bay with keystone
and pedimented window breaking cornice. Blocking course
and slate roof.
Entrance in angled corner tower, arched doorway within
paired Ionic columned portico with carved typanum in
pediment and urns over dies. Square-section tower with
arms of Dundee over door and oculi in the other faces.
Dentil cornice, dome with finial and projecting clockfaces
in arched hoods. Urn finials on dies in angles.
