Probably David Neave, 1815-19. Symmetrical 2-storey and
basement ashlar terrace of 8 3-bay houses. Continuous
band course over ground floor, cill course to 1st floor
and cornice. Cement render obscures details to Nos 5-11.
End pavilions, Nos 5, 7, 17, 19 slightly advanced pairs
of houses with twin central round-headed doors with
fanlights, rusticated ground floors. 1st floor
architraves, and apron panels below cill course.
Centre block, Nos 9, 11, 13, 15, plain masonry, segmental
arched fanlights within pilastered and corniced doorways.
1st floor windows of No 11 have later been lowered through
cill course. Good circa 1880 doorway stained glass to
doorway No 15 and etched glass to No 13.
Windows sash and case with mainly late 19th century
4-pane glazing patterns. Later dormer at No 13, slate
roof. Ridge stacks, some rebuilt in brick.
Wrought and cast-iron railings. Those to Nos 5 and 7
are mid-Victorian.
ELEVATION TO COWGATE: 3 and 4-storey rears to Nos 5 to 9
King Street. Ground floor ashlar 10 bays, windows with
aprons, plain doors, 1 with pilasters altered to a window.
Cornice. Upper floors rubble built, not aligned with
street, having two projecting bowed bays. No 32, 3 bays,
is a late 19th century re-fronting, returned to street
front by 1/4 circle bow.
